Books in a Tuk

Books in a tuk is a community service project which is happening in rotation with the aim of helping well deserving preschool children to learn better. For the first phase of this project which took place on 28th of October 2016, we gathered reading materials such as story books and distributed them among children in 3 preschools in the Gampola area.They are,

1.Little Angels preschool
2.Kids Garden preschool
3.Vishaka pre school

The second phase of this project was held on the 19th of January 2017. We hope to extend this project in other areas in the future.

Donation of Clothes to Annai Illam Orphanage in Mannar

Donating clothes to charity is a wonderful thing.  The Rotaract Club of Kandy did a clothes donation project on the 14th of Januay 2016 under the avenue of Community Service.With the help of Rtn.John Baskaran and Conal Sudarma Suriyadasa we found a girls orphanage in Mannar. With the help of our members in the club and with the help from our family members we managed to buy them new clothes and we donated them to Annai Illam Orphanage in Mannar on the day of Thai Pongal to bring a smile on their faces. Girls in Annai Illam and members of our club enjoyed the day while celebrating Thai Pongal with the blessing from SuriyaBhagavan.

Celebration of Thai Pongal in Mannar

The Tamil festival of Thai Pongal is a thanks giving ceremony in which the farmers celebrate the event to thank the spirits of nature , the Sun and the farm animals for their assistance in providing a successful harvest. The rest of the people celebrate the festival to pay their thanks to the farmers for the production of food. Overall, it is a festival to encourage social cohesiveness and unite people by bringing them together in a common function. Celebrating this festival with the needy is a great blessing.The Rotaract Club of Kandy Celebrated the Thai Pongal on the 14th o January 2016 along with the donation of clothes project for the first time. This was a great opportunity as we learned about the importance of Pongal and we made Pongal along with the Annai Illam Orphanage girls.The project was successfully completed with fellowship.

Christmas Gift Box



"Christmas Gift Box" is our annual Christmas project where we commemorate the festival in its true sense of giving by presenting gift packs to the needy. The basic plan of the project this year was to donate Stationary to 60 children at Bowlana Junior college in Marassana. On 2nd of January Members of the Rotaract Club of Kandy visited the Bowlana junior college to donate the stationery. The student and staff of the school welcomed us with great enthusiasm and were very happy to meet us. Through this project we were able to bring a smile to the little children by conveying the true spirit of Christmas.Sincere Thanks to everyone who contributed to bring a smile & brighten the future of the Students. The Christmas Giftbox Project was an immense success.
