Hands of Healing

Hands of Healing was a project conducted for Thalassemia, which is one of the signatures projects conducted by the Rotaract Club of Kandy for the past 13 years and this time we took it to another level as we had a blood screening center while creating awareness about Thalassemia for the general public.

The project was held on the 6th of June 2018 at YMCA from 9am to 1pm. Apart from informing the audience what Thalassemia is and how one could, prevent it a blood screening was done for all participants for free of charge.
It was yet another remarkable milestone in the history of projects done by Team Kandy in order to prevent Thalassemia.

Train the Trainee

"Train the Trainer" is a Thalassemia awareness and prevention project. The Rotaract Club of Kandy has been doing projects in aid of Thalassemia for years and this year, as a phase of Thalassemia awareness and prevention project, a workshop was conducted to train the members of the club as certified trainers to create awareness and to educate public whenever needed. Also, then the members themselves can conduct awareness programs even without the assistance of doctors. The project was held on 3 rd of June at Kandy Club under the project avenue of Professional Development.

We Care

The project "We Care" is a health camp organized by Team Kandy with the intention of providing medical assistance to expecting mothers and lactating mothers from the Mooloya Estate in Hewaheta which is identified as an underprivileged village.  It was successfully conducted on the 20th of May 2018.

The members of the club visited the estate with a recognized doctor and a seminar was conducted by him on pregnancy and the complications associated with it. It was conducted in Sinhala but since the majority of the participating mothers were fluent only in Tamil, two of the club members helped with providing a translation.

This lecture was followed up by a medical check-up where the doctor examined each pregnant and lactating mother individually. Thereafter refreshments were provided for the mothers as well as the kids who were present. The programme was successfully concluded with the distribution of a complimentary gift pack to each participant who was present.
