RUN 2016 was organized for the
second consecutive year jointly with the Gateway college Alumnai association in
order to raise health awareness and to raise funds for both associations.
The event RUN was first
organized in the year 2015 and it became a huge success as it was the first
event of that kind to be held in Kandy in such a large scale. Therefore keeping
this in mind we launched the event for the second consecutive year in an even
more challenging way. This took the form of a scavenger hunt but it consisted
of many checkpoints which mainly focused on developing various skills of the
participants.
The sponsorships were divided
as Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze and this marketing strategy worked in a
remarkable way. The project was given publicity through banners and posters.
And a facebook event was created and the event was updated daily with posts
relating to the project and also the sponsors also shared the details of the project
on their electronic media.
On the day of the project the
entire organizing committee and the official sponsors gathered at the KCC
terrace and left for the Check point in which they were put on duty. 29 teams
gathered at the above venue by 8.00 am where we had a simple ceremony to start
the event officially. A basic briefing of the project was done by the Project
Chairperson and then the teams were given a clue sheet which they had to solve
in order to find the check points.
They
were also given an instruction sheet which included additional tasks as well as
the rules and regulations of the event.
The Check Points were at the Following Venues and the tasks at the various check points are also listed

In addition we also included some bonus tasks so that the
competition will be more tough and interesting. These too were designed to
check and improve various skills which will come in handy in a person’s life.
Even though the participants must have felt these were just for fun, we had a
deeper intention when designing these tasks as well.
These included,
1. Raise a minimum
of RS 500 in donations by selling cancer pins
2. Take a selfie in
front of the clock tower when the time is 12 noon.
3. Take ‘A’ grade
main road which is 321 km in length as a whole. Walk 4000m along that and take
a 090 degree turn to face a red color board , produce proof EXCEPT a photograph
4. Produce 3 bus
tickets for any location of your choice on your way
5. Take photographs
of Kings Park Hotel, Lakeside Adventist Hospital, Bridge in the Lake, Hatton
National Bank - Head office in Kandy, Awanhala
6. Collect 5 different Business Cards from shops in the
Kandy City
These tasks generally targeted on developing the following
aspects.
§ Public Relation and approach – Through
Bonus Tasks 1 and 6
§ Time Management – Through Bonus Task 2
§ General Awareness
of Area Around – Through Bonus Tasks 3,4 and 5
When selecting the winners we considered Timing as well as
completion and participation of all or as many tasks as possible. It was indeed
a tough battle between the teams.
Finally we were able to select winners
for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and they were given rewards.
