Plant our Future

Once we officially decided to carry out the project it was decided that Udawatte Kele Sanctuary is the best venue as it will not only provide space for the plants we plant but also preserve them for the future generations. Thus enhancing sustainability.
Therefore we met the officials of the Forest Department in Kandy and obtained permission from the Divisional and Regional Forest Offices. It was agreed that they would give us a pathway to maintain inside the sanctuary. Next we made a list of plants and with collaboration with Agriculture department obtained them. The following medicinal plants were chosen

1. Aththora
2.  Nelli
3. Star Fruit
4. Maha Niththa
5. Ranawara
6. Mayurapada Endaru
7. Pokuruwada
8. Badakiriththa
9. Thebu
10. Kenahinda
11. Ugurassa
12. Sapathilla

On the day of the project the Club members met at the entrance of the Udawatta Kele Sanctuary on proceeded to the given location. We were allocated a pathway beside which we were to plant the medicinal plants.  We cleared the area slightly and made planting spots ready and finally planted them. Also we had to make a bamboo fence around each plant to protect it from wild animals. We have undertaken the responsibility to maintain the plants in year to come. The plants will be tagged by us and the area that the plants our located will be maintained by us which will bear our name and therefore it will promote rotaract as well.

Essence of Water

Every new day, every new project brings a challenge, and those we the team Kandy like to take as new learning experiences. There are things that seem impossible, but at the end of the day we will succeed and learn to value the journey and the lesson to take it on further in life. We can always overcome them if we put our heart and soul with commitment.
“Essence of water” is a great project done by the Rotaract Club of Kandy with the purpose of serving the community. Basically the project was; NE/Madankandura Vidyalaya Munwatta Walapane is a school who is lacking a proper water supply for their daily needs. The students have to walk around 750m to bring water. We the team Kandy as people who are passionately looking ahead with sheer enthusiasm and energy to be a service to someone, identified this requirement of this school and took steps to give a helping hand to them for the sake of humanity. We estimated the financial requirement for this worthy cause and after collecting the required amount we started working on that. The parents of the school children and the villagers helped us a lot to make this dream of innocent children a reality. Within a time period of a week we were able to successfully provide them with a proper water supply. This project was held on 25 th of May 2016. Rtr.Ushan Malshika took the initiative of organizing this project.
